*******************************************************
Oh look, a new Gay Spa here in Saigon’s District 10. Oh no, no. The sign says Guy Spa.

Saigon Gay Spa? Guy Spa?
Gay Spa? Guy Spa? Gay Spa? Guy Spa?
Isn’t that the same? Well, not really … or maybe … or probably.
OK, so there we were. Hai and I were about to leave one of our favorite Saigon cafes, the Sorrento Cafe.

Saigon Guy Spa
Before jumping on our motorbike, I noticed a brand new sign across the street, Guy Spa. It stood in front of a tall wall surrounding a rather grand French villa.
Hey, look. Do you think that’s a gay spa?, I asked Hai.
Don’t know.
As Hai paid the 3000 vnd Sorrento cafe parking fee, he exchanged a few comments with the older parking attendant. It was the parking attendant’s judgment that the villa was indeed a gay spa.
But, how would he know? I doubted he’d ever been inside … but, then again, maybe he had??
I immediately felt a professional obligation to Eating Saigon!’s gay readers (and guy readers) that this mystery must be investigated. Work calls! Such a job!
Hai had less interest in the Saigon Gay Spa/Guy Spa mystery and decided he’d head off to the gym while I “went to work.” He did remind me as he left that I had certain obligations “as a married man.” Dĩ nhiên (of course!) I enter the spa not for myself, but for our readers.
OK – MY WORK FINDINGS:

The serene poolside garden setting at Saigon’s Guy Spa
Upon walking through the front gate, I was immediately greeted by a lovely medium-sized, well-kept swimming pool surrounded by wooden deck chairs and palm trees … all set in the large front yard of a rather impressive two-story French villa. Wow! Very nice.
The friendly, attractive, English-speaking Vietnamese “guy” attendant explained to me that Guy Spa opened its doors not so long ago, in October 2013. And that the Spa is now most popular in mid-afternoon, about 3 – 4 pm, as many guys come at that time to enjoy the pool and sauna.
At the time I arrived, about 7 pm, the place was rather deserted, except for the small number of workers and young masseurs lounging in the reception area.
I decided first to give myself a tour of the facilities before succumbing to a “test” massage.

Guy Spa’s open-air showers
Simple, sparsely decorated, spotlessly clean, serene and comfortable. On the first floor was a small locker room, a steam room, a series of side-by-side open-air showers, a small stylish hot sauna, and a well-lighted sitting/lounging room. Very nice.
A sweeping curved stairwell behind the reception area led upstairs to a large waiting room surrounded by a series of smaller massage rooms. Again, clean, simple, comfortable and pleasant. Again, very nice.
After sampling the steam room and sauna and lounging a bit, I decided it was time to reward myself for my hard work with a 1-hour massage.
Tuan, the young, tall masseur was excellent. He very professionally delivered one of the best full-body massages I’ve enjoyed in Saigon. Cảm ơn nhiều, Tuan!

Guy Spa’s tasteful poolside lighting
Not yet ready, post-massage, to step back onto the choatic streets of Saigon, I decided to lounge poolside on the villa’s outdoor patio. Again, very lovely – peaceful and serene.
Now, I can’t say definitively whether I had just discovered a new Guy Spa or a new Gay Spa (or both) in Saigon’s District 10. However, I will give my professional opinion. Guy Spa can be whichever you make it.
I was seeking a great massage. Tuan delivered it, big time!
Either way, you can enjoy a lovely, serene escape from Saigon’s daily street chaos here at Saigon’s newest Gay Spa (sorry, Guy Spa). 🙂
