After quite some time away, Hải and I are on our way back to Saigon … to enjoy wonderful re-unions with family and friends, new street foods & recipes to introduce to neighbors and friends back in the Bay Area, and of course mostly, Vietnam’s incredible food!
However, we’ve taken a brief (6 days) stop-over in Taiwan visiting friends, Van and Zach – who just so happen to also LOVE great Asian foods … in this case, of the Taiwanese variety.
Tonight’s “off the street” 7-course sit-down dinner here in Tainan, Taiwan, was amazing! I expect, a hint at things to come on our return to Vietnam in just two more days!

An amazing dinner about to unfold behind this entry door!

Time to Eat!

Cold whitewater snowflake salad with dried, fermented, smoked skipjack tuna … with pickled plum sauce

Our appetizer platter

Joe’s personal “starter bowl” = Three kinds of eggs (salted, 100-year-old, & egg white – steamed) plus intestine sausage… YUM!

Milkfish, chili & shredded ginger

A warm cozy eatery in an ancient Tainan alley

Best fish ever (“Four-finger threadfin”)!

Our tasty sauteed squid salad

… and sweet chilled soft tofu for dessert

An amazing Tainan dinner …turn off the lights when you’ve finished

See you in Saigon!
very nice write up, Thailand gets all the pub for best food in SEA but Vietnam gives it a run for its money no doubt
Nice! Yum! Enjoy!
