There’s a rather quick and easy way to escape Saigon’s heat and congestion and find yourself in paradise just a few hours later. Hai and I did that earlier this week. And I want to do it again … and again … and again!
After enjoying Saigon’s wonderful street food, enumerable coffee shops, intense traffic, and steamy afternoon weather for the past couple of weeks, we decided to treat ourselves (and Hai’s sister #5 and her children) to a tropical beach fantasy weekend. We all convinced ourselves that we deserved it (rationale pending).
Off to Mũi Né!
With air conditioned comfort, soft reclining seats, great countryside views, and coffee (and corn-on-the-cob) service, we all headed off to the 06:30 am train from Ga Saigon (Saigon’s central train station in District 10). And only about $13 usd pax (round-trip)!
We also took the super-convenient option of driving our motorbikes from our Saigon apartment to Ga Saigon and onto the last train car just as we departed. And, of course, retrieved our motorbikes upon arrival, to drive off the train to our Mũi Né resort. How amazingly convenient was that! That convenience was just $15 usd round-trip per motorbike.
But, it was the resort – Poshanu Resort – that will forever make this trip one of the best in memory. I won’t bore you with superlatives … but simply let pictures express a thousand words.
The suites, the settings, the pool, the beach, the service, the ambiance, the gardens, the meals … as close to perfection as I could have imagined.
Now, I must pause here to let our regular Eating Saigon! readers know, that in spite of the luxury and pleasures involved, Hai and I did not forget them for one moment. Our search for amazing street foods (to report back to our readers) was never far from our minds and, indeed, we can report that Mũi Né did not fail us.
The extravagant buffet breakfasts, as well as the super-fresh seafoods beautifully prepared and presented at the Poshanu Resort for dinners were wonderful. But, it shouldn’t surprise our followers to hear that it was the late-night, road side banh xeo vendor that most wowed us!
And then, there was that early morning visit to the market and on to the Fishing Village that were the crowning jewel to our Mũi Né get away. Again, words are not necessary …
