OK, so I was ready to strangle someone at my apartment house.

Today’s plan was to relax, enjoy my jet-lag in the quiet air-conditioned comfort of our new apartment here in Saigon; update some Eating Saigon! posts; and maybe even begin to wrap up Hai and my 2017 Turbo Tax filing. But it wasn’t to be.

Internet on. Internet off. Internet frozen. Internet slow. Internet off.

OK, Who do I kill?

What’s the problem here? Was it the shark-gnawed under-seas internet cable feeding Vietnam? Was it the new apartment wifi box? Was it the cinderblock wall between me and the hallway rotor? Who cares!

OK, calm down … just get yourself to a coffee shop – hopefully with excellent wifi!

I immediately searched for and found a nearby coffee shop – right in my new neighborhood (found it on my cellphone 3G – not the apartment wifi, of course). Google Maps says just an 8 minute walk! Off we go …

So, here I am. The Coffee House.

I LOVE IT!

Lovely interior decor … I’m sitting at a rustic wooden table, wrapped around a beautiful bonsai tree. Soft, contemporary “Western” music. Nicely air-conditioned. Excellent cà phê sữa đá (iced Vietnamese coffee)! And featuring a “first-for-me” – strong Vietnamese coffee ice cubes sitting atop my cà phê sữa đá … keeping the coffee strong (not diluted as the cubes melt). Brilliant! I hope someone patented the idea – absolutely rates very high on the “usefulness” test. And, most importantly, lightning speed internet!! Whew, back to work.

By the way, lots of interesting looking bánh ngọt (sweet treats) in the display case. Maybe time to go try one. More on that in a future post.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND spending some relaxing and/or productive time at this branch of The Coffee House. I advanced my taxes, drafted this post, enjoyed a great glass of iced Vietnamese coffee, and no longer desire to kill someone back at our apartment about the internet (just hope it’s fixed when I get back.)
