Change can be good.
That is, as long as it doesn’t involve the disappearance of your favorite Saigon phở bò eatery AND of your favorite phở gà restaurant in the same month! TMC – “too much change”!!
Luckily, there’s good news. They didn’t actually disappear. They just found new homes and relocated.
Phở Phú-Vương
First, there was that quiet Monday morning. A few days after the Tet holiday week-long closure of most Saigon eateries. Clearly, my favorite phở bò restaurant, Phở Phú-Vương , would have re-opened by now, I thought.
Hai and I jumped on our motorbike, accompanied by his niece, Hong, and headed off to enjoy, at long last, that bowl of excellent phở bò I had been craving during the Tet holiday closures.
SHOCK – the building is gone! The physical structure where I had discovered and loved the phở at Phở Phú-Vương was mostly demolished! Oh, woo is me.
But wait, a small sheet of paper posted on one of the remaining standing walls said – “We’ve Moved” … and just down the block. Whew … life was good again.
The phở bò at Phở Phú-Vương was still worth the Tet holiday wait … and finding its new location.
I’m not sure if Phở Phú-Vương will eventually return to its original site [339 Lê Văn Sỹ – corner of Hem 337] or not. BUT, as of now, it has relocated down the street to 333E Lê Văn Sỹ – corner of Hem 333.
And, by the way, it’s still the best phở bò in Saigon!

Phở Hà
Then there was that balmy evening when Hai and I had decided that the perfect dinner that night would be a wonderful bowl of phở gà on the street in the shadow of Saigon’s Bitexco skyscraper at Phở Hà.
But, when we arrived – confusion??
Were there now two Phở Hà’s?? No, in Phở Hà’s place now was Phở Hải Trìêu! And, a few doors down was the newly relocated (original) Phở Hà.
Yes, confusion!
Okay, now please pay attention. Phở Hà has relocated just a few doors away from its original location. They were evicted from their location of many decades and replaced by their landlord and another shop (seemingly pretending to be the original).
BUT, the excellent phở gà and xôi gà from the original Phở Hà can still be had a few doors away at its new location at 17-19 Hải Triều Street. And it’s still excellent!
Do yourself a favor and be sure you find the “real” Phở Hà and enjoy some of the best phở gà in Saigon. And please read about our original encounters with this wonderful phở gà eatery here.
